Just a suggestion?
A tournament where every player has to submit one of their own maps every season. Where full artistic licience is allowed as long as they are playable.
Obviously because the maps would be changed quite frequently it would take a way familiarity. However, that would be the whole point. The tournamnet would not just be about the game play but about creativity in submitting your'e own maps.
I think it would be a lot of fun and would encourage players to get into the map making side of things. Both experienced players and newbee's. After all! map making is another addition of what makes LSN the best game on the net.
I'm sure there are lots of players that have spent endless hours on maps only to find they have gone to waste. This would be a great oppotunity for them to be used.

Quite few actually actively make maps.
I personally have a stock of unvaluated maps of my own, besides the ones other has made to evaluate (and fix sometimes), so I wouldn't have that much time to make new ones...LSN: Mr Cartier League:High Elite GMT:+2 - A knight is sworn to valor. It was just an idea for a new tournament set up like KOTC in which each player has to submit their own map without being moderated.
The maps would obviously have faults but that would be part of the fun.
Just a brain storm.
I just thought it would be good way to encourage creativity.

there should be minimum moderator's reviewing, e.g. the deployments zones be present, no obvious starting advantage, etc. The idea is good, but i doubt it could gather 10 players that would ran through 2 rounds of map-making as it is now...

I do think that a tournament of this nature could inspire players to do map making. Simply because their maps would be used. Too spend hours making a map and then for it not to be used puts people off making any more maps. This was why I came up with the idea. The tournament would start off small but hopefully gain in popularity once established.
Yes minimum moderators reviewing would be ok. As long as the moderator has time to do so.

Perhaps, prior to the tournament there could be a round of competition designed to weed out bad maps.
1. In this "map" round of the tournament, the mapmaker plays on his or her own map against an opponent who gets to determine both his deployment color and what races each player is to deploy. (Thus, the mapmaker has incentive to develop a balanced map.)
2. Only the maps of those who win on their own maps make it to the map pool for the knock-out tournament.
3. Each player will play 2 games in the map round; one on his own map and one on another person's map.
If even 1 map makes it into the pool, the tournament will commence. If no maps make it into the pool, there will be a "map-tweaking" period, after which we'll try again!
