Gooed queen |
Lead | ||
|
My queen is gooed for a couple turns ... I think I killed the last spitter around but I have 3 ennemy drones way too close. What's the best way to plot orders for the queen to defend herself at the very least? I had queens do the stupidest things when left without orders in the past ... can't plot any move obviously, red lines will get canceled all at once as the drones are too far away for now, purple lines may be the worse thing to do if the drone I target first goes anywhere else ... any hint please?

Queens don't have yellow "direction" orders. When was the last time you played spawn, Astra?
If the goo won't disappear this turn i would plot no orders LSN Name: Duke Garland Alliance: Rock'n'Roll Suicides (captain) Location: Ukraine, GMT+2 Specialist: League of Ordinary Gentlemen (captain) The logic of war seems to be that if a belligerent can fight, he will fight - Rudy R. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Yes, no orders in that situation. Any Drone which gets close is going straight down the throat. And since you can't move, there's no point trying.
Ordering a bite at any Drone means that the Queen will try to move towards it. If that one hangs back and others go in first, they will get free bites at her. Just one exception: if the Queen has eggs ready to lay, give one "L" order. The egg won't hatch until the Queen is gone, but if the Queen dies in place at least you might get one new creature. BTW I'm sure you know all this really, I'm just being detailed for the benefit of any newer players reading. ![]() ![]() |

Actually eggs can hatch "under" the queen. I had this once long time ago - i was lucky to have splatter hatch there and i've exploded it... a blow on queens health, but getting her out of the goo was more important. Ow, and there is a small problem with units hatched "under" queen - you cannot select them with mouse pointer, use Tab key instead

Splatters are good for clearing goo.
I remember once winning a game unfairly. My Queen and a Splatter were gooed at about turn 28 and the enemy Spikers were just getting into firing squad positions. But my opponent had done more recycling than me and I was 2 points up. Exploding the Splatter (1 point up) cleared the goo and let the Queen run for it (slide for it? bounce for it?), giving me a win after 30 turns. It seemed like a poor way to win, relying on the turns limit to avoid being caught. But on the other hand, there's no sense in playing and not using an advantage you have. ![]() ![]() |

I agree with HB, Brokk.
The turn limit is there, even if slightly 'out of character' if you will. Recycling can be a double edged sword with Spawn, knowing when not too is just as importnant, IMO, as knowing when to. I won a game against Spawn as Machina on Strange Mix where, after a nice early ambush that cost me my Scanner and left me down 2-3 in score my opponent chose to recycle the only two bodies he could reach. Once again in the lead I set about squaring my defences away and when the attack came I broke it. OTOH, if I had had to go after him into that mess without a Scanner.... So good for you!

Queens and drones can eat the goo from the ground. Try it using the object destruction icon
If you force the queen to eat all around you I think u might also bit any drones that attack from same spot... Worth a try... |

I would think that wouldn't work. I know from painful experience that frantically shooting at goo on the ground and screaming for Mommy are equaly effective in getting rid of goo. However, it's worth testing. Also, I could see how you'd do this (try biting at it) when it was about to ebb away and come to the conclusion that it would work.
In summary, I'd think this wouldn't work but I'm going to test first in case it does! |

Re: Gooed queen | #16 | ||

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure I tested this once, and it looked like it worked (the goo is not there visually) but in reality it's just hidden. I think this may be because the client can't show the smokey dust and goo on the same tile. Or perhaps it can't show the goo and also change the tile underneath.
Extrapolating from this, I came to the conclusion that the reason explosions clear goo is that this was easier to code than to fix the visual bug. Also of note, and slightly supporting this : goo on an indestructible floor tile is not cleared by an explosion. I think it might sometimes recede a tiny bit, but it is not cleared. |

Re: Gooed queen | #18 | ||

Just finished testing everything. I totally agree with Tharg on this.
Goo is there, although not displayed due to displaying of "damaged" tile and smoke above it (smoke? after a bite? another prove of totall underdevelopment of the game. of course, i understand, this is a symbolic way to show "terrain was damaged recently". like in real life it would be small details, maybe saliva, or smth). On the next turn, when damaged tiles are no longer "new", goo is displayed "back" again. Dosn't differ wether queen bites tiles or drone or marine laser bolt Now to check explosives (used: naders). even if it is done from a bit far from gooed place (not touching according tiles, but almost adjoined) the goo will descent from that direction quicker, in a "contagious propagation" style, i believe this is what Fuzzy calls sharnell - the wave that brings damage (it's also quite big in radius, the last, ~1 point of damage one.). So the explosive damage does clear goo, even if not destroying the tiles underneath. (It was all on destructive terrain) now on metal floor... explosion didn't remove goo except the tile exactly under the explosion and few other centers of tile-pieces arround. p.s. also, i've simultaneosly tested that airbust doesn't give bigger goo radius than earth-bust.
