Alliance hacked again |

Looks like the Alliance site has been hacked again - one forum now full of threads from the private forums. What a mess

Good. Looks like the admins have taken the board down, so at least we can't be all reading each others stuff. What a friggen mess from yet another pathetico.
May as well post here as Alliance is out ATM, I will be subbing in for Colonel Mustard for April in both matches. My week turned crazy and like an idiot I didn't get our lineups down as I wanted to (randomised with a die |

Vasco, I will assume you are not serious. We admins really do not need any more work at present. I also think that FBI thing is just a ruse to put people off their site. The twits behind this are probably just counting the hits and sniggering.
I have turned the board off for the moment so your posts will be safe from prying eyes for the moment. This is a big problem. Last time they just decorated the site a bit. This time they really have deleted all the forums and set them all to be in one big forum, deleting all the useful data from the database. I do not have a recent backup, Brootal might but I would not hold your breath. We have both been rather too busy with RL of late. So, current choices appear to be: a) wipe the board and start again b) go through say all the posts made in the last month and try and put them in the right forums, accepting that this means one of the admins will have read them (we normally always stay completely clear of team forums). All older posts will be lost c) errr.... anyone got any better suggestions? I am just so very cheesed off by all this. At least last time it was just a bit of decoration. I have better things to do than scrape up the detritus of some juveniles. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh LSN Name: General Strike | League: Elite | Alliance Clan: 99ers(Captain) | Time Zone: GMT

Wow, sounds like they've really stuffed things up. I haven't looked at Alliance since reading it had been hacked, so didn't realise what a mess it actually was.
If you wipe the boards, will you still keep all the match line-up info and current recorded results on the fixtures pages? If so that's probably by far the easiest way to go...... I'm sure people would be able to remember any results posted since the last update? Although I know the Clowns results from match 1 weren't even up so maybe it would be a bit tricky? Also I would have thought there would be very few (if any) LSNers who would try to use this to their advantage. That shows a pretty poor opinion of people. PS Although option b) would be the most efficient, I think this would create far too much work for just 2 admins.... |

don't even know who I'm gonna play yet anyhow.
Just need to reconstruct the scorelines - I've still got the results, if we need to start all over again, so I don't think it would be a problem. As far as the Brigs go we had some pretty sensitive stuff (as far as our game plans go) so we'll have to abandon our plans, but hey I guess that's the way the cookie crumbles... |

What a bummer - we 8-Bits had quite a huge history of postings, much of it quite fun to look back on, not to mention a couple historic match threads that went for 20+ pages, plus primer threads and specific race/LSN/how to advice threads.
Shame to lose it all... ![]() ![]() |

Hey GS - you guys do a great job with the alliance if we need to loose it all & start again then thats what we'll do.
It's not really fair to expect you to sort through all of that & try to put it in the right place. i take it you'll still keep all of the site data? erm & maybe a backup schedule would be a good idea Thinking about it I might backup some of my stuff tomorrow. ahhh good job there's always tomorrow to do mi backups worto. |

I too, would lament the loss of the better, cool historical/tactics/etc.. threads but am firmly in the camp of 'I do this out of love for the comp'. So, if put to a vote I'd say wipe it clean.
You guys will have work enough just recreating the forums and rights, etc... Maybe you can stick the existing threads in a secret tucked away forum and if a clan requests a thread by easy-to-find-title you could restore. This way you'd only be restoring threads people really cared about. After a few months you'd just say the heck with it and whack the lot of them. |

Re: Alliance hacked again | #16 | ||

I wonder if there would be any way to resolve a list of player/team to the thread starter to decide which threads went where, then all that would be need done is parse the threads by starter?
Would take maybe a little programming which I admit I have none, but...well you know. hehe ![]() ![]() |

Quote: Hmm, yeah, just like another clan forum, then the threads could be retrieved at a slow, convenient pace as necessary. It would also mean the forum could be up and running again quickly. But obviously, only if it can be done easily, it's not like you should worry if you have to move each thread individually - that'd be far too much work. To be honest, whatever you want to do we'll go with it GS, you do quite enough already!! |
