IMPORTANT CHANGES:
A few changes have been made to try and adjust for some issues that occured last season. To catch up on the discussion and the logic behind them, read here
(somewhere near the bottom)
1.) Warp Gunners are not allowed. Period.
2.) We'll be swapping the FPs around, so the matches will start with a 15-pointer and end with a 30-pointer. Which
means if you get drubbed in the first 2 months you can still manage to pull out a win in the end.
3.) I've changed the delpoyment dates from the 23rd to the 15th of each month, starting with Nov 15th. I'll be sure to get the next round of games up by the 10th, although the plan is to figure out the schedule in advance.
4.) I'll be administering the league, but I will also be playing in it, just an FYI. Any questions/concerns/rulings regarding games I'm involved with or whatever division I end up in, I'll ask someone else to step in if necessary. I don't expect this to be a problem, but in the interest of full disclosure and all that...
Sign-ups are now through November 1st, just reply to this thread. As of Nov. 1st I'll put a call out if there we need extra players to fill out a division, but it will be first come, first serve after that.
Background:
Although the galactic war seems infinite in scope, the supply of troops to all sides is decidedly finite. As the
numbers of experienced fighters are whittled down, new recruits are constantly needed to take their place. The
process of conscripting local populations into the military machine takes place throughout all the races, and with
no time for luxuries such as basic training these Militia units are thrown straight into front line combat, to live
or die by their own initiative with whatever weapons and equipment they can scavenge. The few who manage to survive in the face of these overwhelming odds may rise to be the elite troops of tomorrow...
The Militia League simulates the fast and furious nature of frontline combat for those billions of unfortunates who find themselves conscripted into the LSN Militias. Harsh and merciless, life in the Militias is the ultimate test of a players skill and nerve..
Rules:
1. It's Only A Game, Don't Worry About It: Whatever happens in the league, Rule 1 must be borne in mind by
all players, at all times.
2. League Structure: Players who sign up to The Militia League will be split into divisions. Each division
will contain four players selected at random from the total recruitment pool. Every player will play one match per
month, against one of three opponents in their division, each match comprising 2 games - a Home Leg, and an Away Leg. The Home Leg will be played first, and the Away Leg will begin on completion of the Home Leg. The league season will last for four months, enough time for each player to play one match against every other player in their division plus one bonus match against a randomly selected opponent from the rest of the league.
Note: This is assuming you lot sign up in the right numbers or that I'm able to recruit enough to even it out.
3. Deployment conditions: Players may choose to deploy as any of the LSN races, but unit selection is strictly
limited to the basic combat unit ('grunt' unit) of each race - Grunts for the Laser Marines, Exterminators for the
Machina, Drones for the Spawn and Sentries for the Greys. In addition to their 'grunt' army, players may select limited support from the rest of their available units - this is restricted to a maximum of two 1-FP units or one
multiple-FP unit per player per game.
For example, to support their army of Grunts, a Marine player could choose to deploy:
2 HQs, OR
2 Medics, OR
1 HQ + 1 Medic, OR
1 Commander, OR
1 Sniper, OR
1 Grenadier.
There is no limit on the FP cost of the supporting unit, any unit can be selected for deployment as a supporting
unit as long as only 1 unit costing more than 1FP or 2 units costing 1FP each are deployed in any game. But remember, the more FPs you spend on your support unit, the fewer 'grunts' you can bring. And in this league, numbers count.
NOTE: The exception to the supporting units rule is that no Warp Gunners are allowed.
4. Challenge schedule: Fixtures will be posted in this thread after the divisions are finalized. Home Leg
challenges must be issued on the 15th day of each month, or within 7 days of this date. Games should be deployed and playing by the end of the month.
Home Leg challenges must be issued by the player designated as 'Home' in the fixtures table with the following parameters:
Round 1: 15FPs on 'Random: any size' maps.
Round 2: 20FPs on 'Random: small' maps.
Round 3: 25FPs on 'Random: medium' maps.
Round 4: 30FPs on 'Random: large' maps.
In addition, all challenges should be set as Wipeout, 20 turns and 15 days. All maps generated by the Random
selection are allowed in Militia League, and refusing a random map selection is not permitted. Orders are orders.
Away Leg matches should begin immediately Home Leg matches conclude, with the player designated as 'Away' sending a challenge back to their Home Leg opponent with the same conditions and on the same map as the Home Leg. This will
mean that map choice for the Away Leg will always be set to 'Choose:' with the Away player selecting the correct map
from the list. All other settings will be the same as for the Home Leg challenge. Both players are, however, totally
free to choose a different race and/or select different support units for the return leg.
Rounds 1 to 3 will be played against the other players in your division. Round 4 is a bonus round played against a
randomly selected player from across the divisions. It's a last chance to grab those vital extra points.
5. Scoring & Victory: Games will be scored on the number of points each player gets for destroying their
opponents units, as displayed in-game. Only points shown on the scoreboard will be counted, extra points will not be
given for non-combat or out-of-ammo units which survive after victory has been achieved. Neither will any bonus be
given to players taking spawn who win the game with fewer points than the losing player due to the production of new
units.
Scores must be reported by the player who sent the challenge for each game, by posting a message in this thread.
Please also include the race and support unit composition. The game score for the Home and Away Legs will be added
together to give a Match total, which will decide who wins each match. Match totals will be added together to give a
Season total, which will decide the winner of each division. In addition, the division winner with the highest
points total overall will be declared the league champion.
Awards will be given to all of the division winners, with a special award going to the league champion. These awards
will take the form of promotion through the ranks, with any rank gained being held permanently until a player either
resigns from the competition or is promoted further by being the winner in another season. The basic rank for
division winners in season 1 is Lance Corporal, with the overall league champion receiving the rank of full Corporal. Through victory in future seasons, promotion will eventually be available all the way up to Field Marshal, with any player who gains any of the ranks of a Commissioned Officer being entitled to keep their rank even after leaving the Militia League.
