I think "crap" is a lot worse for kids to say then "damn". She thinks it's the other way around.
So I'm wondering is it just me or is it cultural thing?
Which do you think is worst for kids (7-8 years olds) to say?

I think I'm seeing cultural difference between myself and Americans (like my wife)

A nice thing about being a second-language speaker is that swear-words in English all seem milder in comparison, than ones in your own language.
In fact, I do believe there are studies that show that Finns might swear in English, in a situation where it would taboo to use the corresponding Finnish word. (and I bet English speakers wouldn't consider saying "scheisse" or "merde" in a conversation in English as much of swearing than @#%$, which will probably get censored by ez) |

I always curse in French when I'm around people I shouldn't be cursing around. |

Being the only american (I think) to have posted on this thread, damn is a lot worse than crap for kids 7-8. And for anyone in general, its just worse. Don't know why, I just live here.

i was hoping we'd get some of the Americans commenting on this. How about some of the Brits? What do you think?
From my upbringing I'd consider "crap" to be on par with "shi t" but EZboard only tries to censer "shi t" |

I voted Cr@p - and I'm English - had a chat with the wife asking her the same question - she thinks that if you are in any way religious then "damn" is far worse.
As america is on average more religious than Britain then that could be why Damn is considered worse. I always find the american use of the word p!ss shocking - even heard in an episode of Friends !! It's used in a completely way than we tend to use it and I so can understand why it's allowed. BvC |

Ahhh religion may explain it. I'm in the middle of God bothering country here in Richmond.

In america crap is definitely NOT on par with shi t. it is actually used as a substitute because its not as bad. And shi t is worse than damn, which is worse than crap. not sure how brits use p!ss though....

How do american's use p!ss? never heard it said over here.
Brits would use it as "P!ss off" which would almost be as bad as "fcuk off" |

Funny how totally different the curses are.
In a scale 1-100 with fcuk off at 100 p!ss off would be like 10, with crap at like 4. ![]() |

Re: which of these curses is worst | ||

I think we have worse than the f word - .... all I'll type is a c then followed by an anagram of "nut" ... this would be about a 150 on your scale.
My fav curse is b0ll0x - sounds funny when you say it and so you have to smile which snaps you out the bad mood you were in to begin with to say the curse in the first place!! BvC |

I'm not really an American, but I'm pretty close being a neighbor and all.
Around here, we use sh it all the time, both in french and english. Since crap is only a subtitute for the aforementioned word, I don't even consider it a curse word or a bad word. Maybe slightly impolite, but so little it's not even worth mentioning. Damn, on the other hand, could be seen as "damned" as in doomed. Pretty harsh for anyone, extremely bad for young children. |

Probably not too surprisingly, I'm backing Ragman's definitions here all the way.
As a side note, I've always found it amusing that Brit's use 'p!ss' more on the side of the taking in of the beer whereas Americans use it to describe when we , uh, return the beer. |

Quote: It isn't, it's a clothing chain So what neither of you lots from either side of the pond use both meanings in equal measure? Mate, I have to tell you, I'm really pissed, I was out last night getting pissed, but the bartender said I was too pissed and wouldn't serve me any more, mate I was so bloody pissed. I would say out of the original 2 they'd both have equal weight, neither has much real meaning any more. Especially when 90% of what goes for comedy seems to involve that word that is not a clothing chain as every second word |

clothing chain? I thought it came from the crime "For Unlawful Carnel Knowledge?" or is that just a myth?
