I'm hoping that some people might tell us how they achieved certain levels, not just spoilers, but best winning scores, their strategies. As a non-online player, I'm finding my campaign progress slowing as I reach the higher levels; are there any which are totally impossible? Hyperspace

Posts: 211 9-Aug-06 01:28 series of cat-astrophes	I finished all the marine missions on... don't tell anyone... rookie. Got to the... third? Machina one... where you have to defend your HQ. Played the first two Grey campaigns, and got to "bitch fight" on spawn. Anymore, I only play the campaign if all my online games are "waiting". Which can happen a lot since it seems I'm mostly playing folks in other time zones who are in the wee hours of the morning when I finally get to sit down at the PC. If nothing else, it helps you experiment with the mechanics of the game. "War is a series of catastrophes that results in a victory."

Posts: 15 9-Aug-06 20:08	I completed them all at the Veteran level, and was half-way done again as Elite when I finally activated my free online time to start a first turn against a human player. I haven't found time or interest to play a single more turn against the computer since then. To answer your question, I don't think there is any impossible levels ... but it becomes really tedious as you sometimes are facing 70+ FPS forces with 10-12 FPS on your side ... so you can't afford any early loss and have to start over and over again if just the smallest thing goes wrong ... and you end up winning not because of your great tactics but because you learned what the AI moves are for every single turn ... I remember that the only way I found to win in the last spawn mission was to force the computer to use all it's ammo on buzzers flying back and forth the same path for like 10 turns, because there was no way you could successfully attack 5 AI sitting next to each other with the small force you have ... tedious.

Posts: 3434 12-Aug-06 15:05 Speen Demon	Yea, the single player is not played a lot by the regulars, some of us have played them. I did them all on rookie, then started on Vet, but got bored. The AI is scripted, rather than true AI, so they always make the same moves. More of a tutorial/puzzle in my opinion. LSN: Brootal Alliance wants you! Accepting 30+ day challenges.

Posts: 39 11-Oct-06 15:19	I finally finished them all on elite... after 2 years!! the hardest ones in my opinion were the final marines vs greys starting in prison and 14 hours to save the earth for the spawn but as the last plAYER SAYS THE MORE YOU PLAY THEM THE MORE PREDICTABLE THEY ARE so you can learn and pre-emt the computers move cheating really but there you go>>

Posts: 17 11-Oct-06 23:37	Well done Vitnary! I agree with your appraisal with the final Marine mission; I also stalled on the final Spawn mission and the final Grey mission for a number of attempts. Strangely, as I am not very good with Machina, I found their campaign more straightforward, though mission 4 on rookie cost me a day or two. I managed to complete everything about a week ago, having started in July, 25 on the first attempt (14 Hours To Save The Earth was one of my better ones;rookie and elite on the first go, veteran on the second). Did you ever encounter your AI leaving its script? (see one of my other posts)

Oddly he also didn`t figure out the last spawn mission, and just won it on points. The solution is not to empty the AI`s of ammo as above, it`s much sweeter.

Posts: 20 20-Feb-07 21:14	I am in the middle of the last Marine Mission on Elite. I didn't go back lately to finish but I do find that the the computer should have better AI. I would love to see the game have a proper AI with a Skirmish mode for practice when you can't get any Online turns.
