Can Spawn destroy power cells? |

In the final Spawn campaign, I am faced with destroying a power cell to get at the final Hunter, but the power cell is inaccessible to a Queen. After many attempts at detonating a Splatter next to the power cell to no effect, I am left to wonder at how to generate sufficient damage. Any clues as to why the Splatters are not getting the job done?

******possible spoiler alert below (but probably not!)********* I'm not 100% sure but I think that only the Queen can destroy the power cells  I never completed the SP scenarios so I cant help there. (you could get lucky if trawl through the various posts here and find a similar post, dont bother with the search option, it doesnt work). I know I played the mission, but I can't remember which one it was (perhaps if you could describe the mission I might remember). Look for other ways in, I don't remember any mission forcing you to destroy a power cell, except the one where you start in holding cells.
Note as long as it's not a HQ mission, if you are winning on points you can just let the turns run down (boring way to win I know) [edit] just saw the post below this one, you should be able to get the queen in there to get the power cell. LSN: Brootal

With my current absence of web access from home, I just replayed all the campaigns, on elite mode and trying to take no loss at all to make it a bit more challenging ...
The only mission I could not even manage to just win is this one. I tried about 20 times, I still haven't figured out the trick. You first face 2 AIs and 5 XTs outside of the building. It is then divided in 3 sections, with lots of AIs and XTs on the left, you obviously have to come from the back here. THe central area has a few XTs behind windows and several switches to open large doors. THis can be cleaned up after you send a buzzer through one window to open all the switches, but you cant get to the very last room with a hunter in there because of a double forcefield that can't be destroyed by the queen. The path on the right has 2 MTs, that can be destroyed with a single spiker hit in one of the gas tanks and the following chain explosions. I thought I rememberd that you could then enter the room with the hunter from there from the very first days I bought the boxed game, but I was playing in veteran mode if I recall, and maybe the door status is different in elite. Anyway, there is no way to access the hunter room I could find now. Last time I somehow managed to get ahead on points, killed the hunter somehow, then won by using buzzers to deplete all the AIs and XTs on the left side from their ammo (quite boring, with 50 ammo and 6 shots/turn, believe me). This can't be done in elite as you start with some points down already and less units, which results in more time and casualties to just get in the building. At this point you are behind on the kill counter, and the only way to win would be to clear the area entirely. I think that might be a matter of config files update. Does anybody know if Queens were able to do more damage in the time of single player missions release?
Anyway, in the previous topic Axemanndavva said you should be able to do the trick with the Queen, and he's the man behind the spawn missions, so I can see no other explanation. ------------------------------

Thanks to you all for the advice! Great description of the scenario, Rotwng, and, like you, I am battering the campaigns in non-online frustration. This particular mission I can always clear everything bar the said hiding Hunter. My deployment is 13 buzzers and a Queen; initially, storming the guard XTs with most of the buzzers and letting in the Queen to the hatchery , I leave two buzzers at the south side of the map to run up and down to deplete the two AIs outside. Inside, this being around turn 3, I also run a buzzer back and forth in front of the massed AIs/Xts (not too near!), expecting to lose between three or four before the AIs run out of ammo. I then target the spent AIs with buzzers such as they cannot be shot at, remembering an additional AI will join them around turn 16 (so more running a buzzer back and forth!!). Meanwhile, around turn 13 I destroy the gas cannisters with a spiker hatched from the first onslaught. In the final throes, the now-depleted AIs outside are destroyed, as are the AIs/Xts inside; the Queen has recycled the MTs and some other carcasses, and the remaining buzzers have accessed the central portion of the hatchery via an eaten window (Queen/ Drone). But that Hunter just hovers there defiantly...
The missions I found most difficult to utterly defeat (no enemy survivors) in Elite were: Spawn - Research Completed/ Party In Tool Town/ 14 Hours To Save The Earth; Greys - Batteries Not Included. Hyperspace |
