How often do you deploy mobile Marine squads?
I've done it bunches of times with good results though it must be said that I rarely run into Spawn, and that sure helps.
I know that ammo can become a bit of a problem, more for Snipers & Grunts in my experience than for the Naders but that's because I generally take between 3 and 4 Naders along if I know I'm going to go mobile. I think a lot of my comfort level with the plan is due to the many Guerrilla League games I played. Once you get away from a nade spamming mentality you really do, IMO, realise that you've plenty of ammo for the job most times, whether you be up against Marines, Machina or even Greys. In addition, just because you have no HQ doesn't mean the Spawn player realises it. Spawn have the worst eyesight of the four races and if you're smart enough to keep a Medic or Grunt under deep cover they may never find out.
The squad I most often deploy when I go HQ-less is the 1C, 1S, 4N, 5G, 2M squad. If I expect heavy fighting right off the bat, I might go 6G, 1M. I'd almost never give up all my medics for the simple reason that they are just too damn useful too often even if you expect a five turn game.
Am I a lone crazy in the woods, or does anyone else 'go commando' as the kids say. Or said. I'm old. I don't know anymore...
