Posts: 873 25-Oct-05 16:08	Tags : None Rules : Hotseat Match - Contender visits the Holder 30 Turns Type: HQ or Wipeout - Holder's choice FP: Holder's Choice Race: Single or Free choice - Holder's Choice Map: Random - Holder and Challenger may each have a single veto The Holder must be listed on the LSN Players Map Optionally the belt can be decided in a best of x series, as long as all games are played in the same session. Snacks: Holder to supply snacks for the duration of the game Commentary: Both Holder and Challenger should try to provide commentary along these lines: Football Belt I declare myself the first belt holder - Who's first up I live in Bournemouth (UK). In fairness to the LSN players based in Non-UK Countries perhaps there should be a belt per Region? Indri: can you knock me up a medal? Perhaps PC or a burning seat as the Icon? That way, the champion simply physically takes the belt with them? It needn't necessarily be much -- could even be just a design by Indri, printed onto that laserjet transfer paper, transferred onto a piece of white cotton and sewn into a "boxer belt" style shape by the holder's mum/girlfriend/wife/self. But it should be done....

You only get to compete in it if you've travelled across a national border to do so.... I figure we need that as well as the various National Hotseat Belts, since otherwise there's no Hotseat Belt he and I can play for (it would be unreasonable of me to win the North American Belt from him, since I wouldn't be in North America afterwards).

We've agreed some rules for the first game: the host chooses the map- it is their territory after all- but being a polite host they offer their guest the choice of deployment zone and force point limit. So, the map I have chosen is Suburbia, site of my greatest triumph (you know who you are ). Ian will get back to you with what side and force point limits he has chosen. As an aside, Ian has been playing a devilish cunning metagame. He knows I need more sleep than he does, so kept me up late last night in a wine-fuelled debate about capital punishment, the Iraq war and Battlestar Galactica; thus hungover and tired, I approach the Greatest Game Of My Life. What I haven't told him is that I actually bunked off work today, checked into a spa and had a 4 hour sleep, my mouse hand massaged by 3 geishas and beta blockers pumped into my system with a turkey baster. Oh, I'm ready. Oh yes. BRING IT!

Posts: 272 11-Jan-06 03:55	Ian here: I still think that the old Starbuck could "have" Saddam Hussein in a melee combat mutually assured capital punishment scenario. Well I've chosen the Blue side to deploy in (which apparently proved unsafe for John's previous opponent on this map). After some debate, I've settled on 30 points as the force limit. I reckon that 25 points is probably best for balance between all the races (I think that Greys and Marines are marginally more effective than the other races in 15- and 20-point games, and Machina in 30-point games, whereas 25 points seems a fine balance, or possibly favours Spawn slightly in which case that's even more well-balanced), but that 30 points is most fun, and has most explosions. I like explosions.

The map has cover, access points, and he's had a drink or 2. So, maybe an MT horde in the right corner? Or a snipadier party pack? Or 8 psykers? We'll see. And Lee Adama would wipe the floor with Comical Ali. Did I mention he'll go spawn?

In my counteranalysis, I think John will go Greys -- he doesn't like Machina, he's fairly sure I've picked Spawn again and so probably doesn't want to go Spawn against them (if he was absolutely sure I'd taken Spawn, he could field a dedicated anti-Spawn Spawn deployment against them, but I think he'll want something more versatile). He might take Marines, but he knows I don't much like playing against Greys, and probably (correctly) regards that as a weakness of mine. I suspect that given the gravity of this Belt (as hinted at in our writeup of the Football Crazy match a couple of days back) will mean he's prepared to exploit that weakness to the max! Fair play if he does. So, what exactly did I deploy, again? Have I had so much beer and whisky that I can't remember? Do you feel lucky, John?

There's too much history for either of us to really guess what the other is doing...after all it could be that the last 14 years of rivalry has just been a set up for this perfect con, and Ian is really a Master Grey Ninja who has been building his skills in a monastery for the last year. I haven't seen him in person for that long. Have any of you? Exactly. He's been at the monastery. Master. Grey. Ninja.

He's borrowed my earlier tactics (see the aforementioned Football Crazy belt writeup: p069.ezboard.com/fcodogam...1&stop=140 ) of flattery and sentimentality. He'd like to pretend that I've still got the arsedness to spend a year at the Grey Ninja Mastery Monastery, just, y'know, hanging out and learning how to be Bad, but it's just flattery for a slightly tipsy aging chancer who would probably never have been arsed to spend a year learning ANYTHING, even in my younger days. Plus there's hints of Snowcrash, a book important to both of us; tantamount in the mindgame stakes to putting on Massive Attack's _Protection_ album, when it comes to nostalgic sentimentality. But thanks for the compliment, John. Damn! He's got me thinking all wrong-headedly again!

I'd hoped it wouldn't come to that.

I feel I need to unveil my Dim Sum secret kungfu death touch soon.... I have a strong suspicion (well, let's say, a certainty) that he will see some evidence of my existence next turn. Even Grey Ninja Masters are occasionally heard, usually going "Bwa-hwa-hwa-hwa-ha" into their grey ninja beards.

Which worries me, as I have a tendency to think I can exert map control when I can't really, and if I push too far I'll get mullered. There has to be some contact this turn I figure. He'll certainly know I'm greys, as a warp ball will go off to the right of the map (part of a deforestation campaign in case he is spawn).
