He was a sci-fi character first created in the 1950's in a boys magazine called Eagle; Eagle was a post war magazine; not only cartoon strips, it would have diagrams of how for example the latest Submarines look inside. Also it encouraged kids of that generation to get out, join clubs and be active; something lacking in todays comics.

I first bought Eagle in around 81 and loved it and the Dan Dare script. Dan Dare addictive he was at his peak again in 1986 with the terrific Dan Dare video game (funny enough Published by Virgin Interactive) until I grew out of it in 88-89. Soon afterwards Eagle was no more, and Dan Dare cropped up from time to time in different forms (50's style and modern day style), and you probably know the cartoon series - saw one episode it was ok, but imo not the Dan Dare I remember.

Since October and the release of the Eagle Annual 1950's edition, I suddenly gain an interest again. Then Richard Branson (who stated that he was a Dan Dare fan as a kid) bought rights to published a new script which began last November, published by Virgin Comic in NYC; All coincidence. A pretty good story line though not 100% Eagle Dan Dare it closer than most reditions plus I believe in change; can't have the everything the same else no adaption equal staleness right? So I've had my first comic subscripton in 18 years at Mega City Comics based at Camden (que plug: a great retailer highly recommended).

Well I should have kept all my 1980's Eagle comics for a revisit. I use to also like Computer Warrior, about the kid who use to get transported into video games.
