Posts: 3525 6-Mar-08 08:29 Captain Clown	Tags : None Anyone seen this film?? I watched it the other night and really liked it. Its a bit lock stock and two smoking barrels without any humour...stars daniel craig. Very detailed plot, full of twists and turns, the language is strong as is some of the violence. I would sum it up as a superior modern English gangster film. Also watched "300" which i didnt think much of. Its so computer animated its not like watching a film rather a computer game. Plot wasnt much and neither was the acting. The painted on abdominal muscles on all the Spartans was quite amusing. Also watched the last resident evil film. That was ok if you fancy some light entertainment and you dont take things too seriously...was let down by a weak ending. Also watched 28 days later....what a pile of total poo!!!! No plot, crap cast, weedy "Hero" who would have trouble swatting a fly let alone a zombie..just a cheapo nasty plotless pile of poo!!! Posts: 4572 6-Mar-08 09:21	I wasn't that big a fan of Layer Cake, but I got it from Screen Select, which had it down under action/comedy, like lock stock, and it wasn't funny at all. I think that was what threw me, although it was actually quite good. Typical ending :( I liked 300 because I wasn't expecting much but for it to look pretty. If you fancy a bit of a laugh just exchange all the lines for something varied from 'How awesome are you?'. Examples: 'How awesome are you?' 'Do you doubt my awesomeness?!?!' 'I AM AWESOME!!!!' 'You are not awesome, I am' As for the muscles I think someone posted a link to their workout leading up to the film, and they're probably not quite as fake as you think they are, although I don't doubt they did some digital gunsculpting. The Resident Evil films have been going downhill since the first one, but I'll watch it as I enjoy that kind of thing! I just won't get my hopes up of the third one saving the series ;) I've heard 28 weeks later was rubbish, disappointing aftrer the first one... The descriptions I saw suggested it was rather like lock, stock which I didn't think much of. 28 days later I liked, 28 weeks later was okay, but not quite as good. children of men was just awful. I couldn't see past how twee it was so I concede there might have been a good film hiding in there somewhere. Anyone else seen 'day watch' or 'night watch'. Rather incomprehensible in places but also quite compelling action movies. I liked 300 too -- it wasn't a historical movie, it was a superb fantasy war movie based on an equally superb fantasy war comic. Fake abs? Nope. Ian....Where do you find that stuff, I spent ages trying to find who did the training for "300" I really dont mean offense by this but if those guys do the same training as you, how is it that you have been doing it for years but are not in shape to be a member of the cast in "300" But these actors were after a few months????? Posts: 524 6-Mar-08 22:08 Registered User	LV, I do 30 minutes a day, 5 or 6 times a week... they did a more harsh regimen than that. Plus they had one of the toughest personal trainers in the business... What makes all the difference, though, is the control of diet. Altering body shape is 10% exercise, 90% nutrition. They were eating nuts, seeds, berries, leaves, & lean meat. Not much else. That stuff forms the basis of my diet too... but I'm not so strict; I supplement it with liberal doses of chocolate & beer. Right now I weigh 71kg. I would estimate I'm around 13-14% body fat, so maybe 9.5kg of that is fat. If I were to do a hardcore Gym Jones style diet for a month, while still working out, I'd easily drop 5kg of fat, taking me to say 6% body fat... at which point, abs would be well visible. I doubt I have the discipline to maintain that, though... As for where I find this stuff -- I'm a fitness geek, and a comics geek, and a fantasy movie geek, and a professional researcher -- what do you expect?

Ian: thanks for not taking offense, none was meant Those guys were mainly lean just like you said and what you describe would have got them that way. However, their builds are a bit suspect and the worst of that is the abs which in some scenes are very suspect. However like everyone else you also have to work and do exercise in your spare time, and can't afford a triner and/or dietician. My abs are not defined, its a very hard to build abs without knackering your lower back. Ugly Toy, if I was paid to body build I would look really good To look like Arnie though..no way, I could never achieve that and wouldnt want to. L-sits will build your abs like nothing else, without knackering the back, & without that much time required... hard work, though. That's the bit that most people don't like. Mostly though, if you want defined abs, you just have to cut out bread, booze, chocolate, sugar, pasta, starchy veg, etc., & lose weight. Anyone with a bodyfat % under 10% or so is going to have well defined abs, even if they're not that physically fit...

With your upper body still vertical, bend your legs up at the waist, so you form a right-angled L-shape, with your torso & head being the vertical bar of the L and your legs the horizontal one. Scroll down this page for a video: http://www.crossfit.com/cf-info/excercise.html (It's listed as L-hold (L-sit) there.) Hold for as long as you can... 10 seconds would be a good starting time. 3 x 10-second L-sits a day will be a good start. By the time you can do a 2-minute L-sit on the gym rings you will have abs like anvils.

If it kicks off it stops me running so as a rule I dont try to build abs. It would be good to do so though as it would actually support my back more making it less likely to cause a problem. Obviously I'm not a physio, doc, or exercise professional, all stuff is undertaken at your own risk, etc. Another thing you could try for abs is the yogic practise of Nauli, or recti isolation... I doubt that would knacker your back. But what do I know? I believe everyone should deadlift to at least 60% of maximum at least once a week, and some people reckon that's bad for the back.

Posts: 3532 9-Mar-08 07:39 Captain Clown	Backs are a nuisance...I slipped a disc im my neck once lifting weights to sort out a problem in my lower back!!! Now if I dont regularily lift weights I can hardly walk because my spinal nerve gets crushed by a damage disc in my lower back and then my disc in my neck goes as well. Its good in that I haveto lift weights otherwise I cant get in a car, go to bed, move etc etc so I am well motivated to body build but its a curse also. If I could build my stomach muscles it would really help my lower back..im going to try the L things when I work out today.....
