Posts: 2 11-Jul-08 00:52	Tags : None Out of curiosity, does anyone think they know approximately how big the player base is for this game? I just signed back up after about four years of having not played it, and I'm curious as to how the game is doing. And also a re-newbie question: do you no longer get challenges in the email, and instead have to click on the "Challenges" section of your personal interface? Are those challenges that are listed personal challenges, or general ones that anyone can grab? My question above comes from the fact that when I look at the "challenges" section, I see only one person's name and a few different game possibilities... Seems like there should be hundreds of challenges floating around at any given time(?). Anyway, just wanted to know how the game is doing. I pray it isn't dying, is it? Though I have not played it in years, the game does hold a special place in my heart. Thanks for your time. Only got a couple games started--would love to go all out with a whole bunch running simultaneously, but I'm leaving for a fortnight this weekend. If anyone could answer me with how receiving challenges works these days, (by email, or by that interface? Also, is starting an "open challenge" on the interface different from starting a game from the LSN main menu?) that would be great Cheers, SJH

The web client is IMO the easiest way to handle games, as the emails don't always come through right away, but you can play your games either way. when I look at the "challenges" section, I see only one person's name and a few different game possibilities... Seems like there should be hundreds of challenges floating around Er, sorry, but yes, the game has a lot smaller following than it did just a couple of years ago. That really is the full list of open games available for you to accept (and yes, you can grab any of them, they are not private ones). But that doesn't mean there's no-one to play! If you put an open friendly challenge out yourself then it will be visible to all players, leagues are visible only to those in the same league as you. An awful lot of games these days are tied up with the compos/belts (have a look at the belts area in this forum), so the challenges are sent directly to the player in question (done by clicking New player challenge rather than open challenge). There is a new season of Alliance League about to start on 1st August. This is a team compo and there are bound to be teams needing players (I think we may still need someone in the Clowns, but it depends if one of our players resurfaces or not). Well at least everyone seems like they are good people on here, which is more than I can say for the player base of... any other game I've played, really. If I were a millionaire, I would donate some money to the advertisement crew, heh. This is a great game, just the word needs to be put out. Anyway, As for the "belts" (not really sure what you mean by this), I'm not very good at the game, but hey, I'm working on that! My units can still shoot their guns. Firepower, baby! Anyway, I'm happy to be here to bolster your numbers, even if by one more! At $7 a month, how can I not? I'm not that broke, hah. (then again, I don't have a girlfriend. Perhaps there's a correlation there). Do you mean to say, by the way, that the only challenges I will see are those from people in my same league? And if memory serves, my league changes only through playing League games, right? Thanks for your patience. PS: If you had to make an educated guess, how many strong would you say the player base is? I've been getting punished in the few games I have running, but the sound of the gunfire and the soldiers dying, no matter whose, is somehow very satisfying to come back to

Posts: 3879 12-Jul-08 07:23 One by one, the penguins take my sanity	OK, well although you are currently unranked you are a veteran. There are 3 leagues: rookie, vet and elite. You can play a friendly against any other LSN player, so all friendlies you put out on the open challenge list can be seen by anyone, and you can see all friendlies available. League games you can only play against other vets, so you will only be able to see vet leagues available, and only other vets will be able to see the ones you put out. You would have to play leagues to change your league position. eg atm if I look at the challenges there are 2 friendlies available vs hTiek and 2 leagues vs Rotwang. As I am in the elite you will be able to see the friendlies vs hTiek but not the Rotwang ones, and you may be able to see some vet leagues which I can't. Belts - OK, here is a link to the belts forum clicky. These are games which you put yourself in a queue to play (most of the queues are extremely short though!) and there are specific parameters. For example the Golden Egg is all spawn games, the Warped Mind belt you deploy nothing but Warp Gunners (and regens IIRC), Speed belt any race but only 5 day games allowed (and loads more, some with extremely specific deployment options). Basically in a belt game the current holder works through the list of opponents. If you win your game you become the holder and get to display a medal in your sig, then you challenge the next player in line. If you win 7 games in a row you get to display a silver plate (the first thing in my sig). It doesn't matter how good/bad a player you are, and it can be a great way to learn how to play specific race match ups. I have no idea about the player base - we need Fuzzywinker for that, but he's got a lot more busy in rl lately. There are definitely more players than just those showing up in the leagues though, as not everyone plays league games. One of the problems with LSN is that as the player base has got smaller the player skill has got better lol!
