So how do I go about creating a turret model that any race can deploy instead of something else?

I've got an idea for this one. I've managed to create a unit that has speed 0, ammo practicaly infinite and a shooting speed as fast as I can make it without a glitch.
So how do I go about creating a turret model that any race can deploy instead of something else? |

Any particular program I should use? I'm thinking what if I just stick the unit picture I want to change into Paint and change them? |

You need a paint program that can manage the "nonexistant" colour. I explain the how the graphics work:
First there is the regular paint file where there is the images of all units. Yes, they're there, and if one draws a smily face on one of the images, it'll be there for a frame. Then the shadow file of the exact name is used. It filters all the "nonexistant" parts of the paint out, and the "black" parts are taken trough. Then the config files or graphics files or something checks trough the correct positions and sizes for each frames, and bundels the correct frames in right order for, let's say moving MT. This means that as long as you have a decent paint program (and keep the "shadows" correct shaped" and stay within the frame size limits (unless you wish to go trough huge work to set them correct again), it should be fairly easy in theory to do it. It's the practice that can be rather hard, as the images are suprisingly often hard to make just perfect. LSN: Mr Cartier League:Mid Elite GMT:+2 - A knight is sworn to valor. If you need something more powerful than Paint, GIMP is a good free app. Might take a while to figure it out coming from Paint, though.

I'm not sure, but I'd assume if you want a turret for ALL races you'd need to edit the images for 1 unit type of each race, you could modify the HQ's and keep thier reload capability (that'd be cool)

If you would modify HQs, it would mean that you would need to define the area for lots of more frames, as marine and mech HQs have only ONE frame. Grey HQ should have couple of frames to create the campfire glow, and Spawn HQ should have more than enough frames to your needs.

Hm. The HQ was what I had in mind. I tested it on a medic, and was going to stick his stats in for the HQ.

Thanks. I figured it would suit me better than the constantly firing gun now I was trying to make a mod.
That, and it suits why I got the title. Not that I did anything, of course... |

How about if this turret unit could be made as a terrain piece that map makers could use and that would always stay on faw mode?
