I am playing with LSN after a long break, and I am a US Marine NCO and I definitely think that this game has huge potential in training applications. But is there a way to edit the units to reflect real world effects, for example is there a way to mimic a machine gun? or a rifle with a grenade launcher? Any help you guys could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Perhaps Fletch or some such can modify some unit to function as saucer, wich allows reloading out from it's own suppily of ammunition. Firing time can be decreased to quite low (around 0.6s per shot) before it starts showing on the shots. What it does is that the shots seem to appear in the game further and further from the actual unit the lower the firing time. If that doesn't bother you, then I guess it's okay. Just don't drop it super low, or the game crashes.

Combining two...

I completely agree that this game has inherant tactical training applications. I had just hoped that there was a way to modify the game to reflect an actual marine corps fire team which consists of 1 fireteam leader with a grenade launcher, 1 rifleman (grunt), 1 saw gunner, and 1 assistant saw gunner/rifleman. I was hoping to make a machine gun out of the commander, finding out how to make it possible for a marine to give ammo to another marine in the case of the Agunner, and how to put a...

Unfortunately I just don't know how that is made so you can ditch a medic for instance for the mine layer there. And thank you for serving our country.

I don't think the game really needs much editing (if at all) to be used as training. One of LSN's greats made a comprehensive tactics guide that (he said, I don't really know) is based quite a bit on real world military tactics.
While I'm no expert, it seems to me that you could alter the Unit Data.cfg and change weapon damages, weapon speed, reaction time, weapon range, accuracy, etc to your heat's content.

Wheneveer you view a turn, or play a hotseat game, these figures would be used. Of course, if you actually send a turn to the server, the server will use the proper data. But it should work fine in hotseat if I'm not mistaken.
<img...
